The European Chemicals Bureau Classification, Labelling and Packaging Working Group recently (March 2006) reviewed the toxicological data on Trisodium Nitrilotriacetate, Na3-NTA. They concluded that the classification should be updated to include a category 3 cancer classification (R40, Limited evidence of a carcinogenic effect) with a 5% threshold limit for classification of preparations containing Na3-NTA. This recommendation is scheduled to come into effect at the end of 2007. As soon as these recommendations and reviews are complete, anyone using NTA in a detergent preparation at a level higher than the threshold limit, must update their safety data sheets, product labels and technical brochures and inform customers of these changes in writing. |
