History

CCL Interchem was founded by Alex MacDonald and Milton Matthew in 1985 when they marketed a single product - ProtoSolv. This, then revolutionary product was designed to improve the cleaning efficiency and reduce the cleaning time on high heat milk equipment; particularly evaporators.

From these humble beginnings the company has grown significantly and now offers a complete range of products covering every aspect of cleaning and hygiene in the food and beverage industries.

Since then the business has expanded significantly and now the product range includes many unique products

For the first 10 years CCL was called Chemical Cleaning Limited. Since everyone knew the company as CCL, it was decided to change the name, making it easier to pronounce. The Interchem part of the name was added because of the trading alliance with three other detergent companies.

Since 1986 CCL has expanded its operations across all business sectors through category expansion, organic growth and acquisitions. Examples include:

  • The acquisition of FDA Technical Services (one of the other three detergent companies mentioned above), a well respected detergent supplier to the brewing industry...
  • The acquisition of Lorco, a company well known for their conveyor lubrication expertise throughout the dairy, bottling, brewing and beverage industries...

In 2004, CCL completed the move from their old premises in Leigh into the new production, office and training facility in Haydock.
