The essence of a good Hygiene Audit is the examination of all factors that impact on Hygiene within the factory. This not only includes the whole of the cleaning process but also the day to day handling of raw materials, finished goods and packaging.

Every aspect of cleaning and disinfection should be examined to establish whether the correct cleaning chemical is being used in the correct way at the correct time. From a production point of view, hygienic handling of all raw materials and finished product is essential and the establishment of a strict personal hygiene regime is paramount to good manufacturing practice. These are all areas where an in-depth audit can highlight potential problems.

Sometimes, factory management can be "too near" the problem and the use of an outside agency or "fresh pair of eyes" can spot any gaps or flaws in the existing Hygiene Management System.
